IN SHORT
Milton Keynes College have a unique opportunity for a patient and adaptable Generalist Tutor to operate as part of the education team within the Westgate Unit at HMP Frankland – working 3 days a week Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The Westgate and PIPE (Psychologically Informed Planned Environment) services, part of the National Offender Personality Disorder Pathway (a HMPPS/NHS strategy), offer assessment, treatment and support to male and transgender prisoners deemed as high or very high risk of reoffending as a function of complex personality disorder(s). The successful candidate although employed by Milton Keynes College and reporting to the Education Manager would work outside of main education, as part of a multi-disciplinary team (operational prison staff, psychologists, occupational health, mental health professionals and others) to effectively meet the holistic and educational needs of the learners within these services.
You would be delivering engaging Projects (flexible/themed) teaching around a range of subjects/topics as part of their therapeutic regime activities, aiming to provide learners with the opportunity to develop supportive relationships, skills and confidence. It is recognised that encouragement and feedback from staff/teams outside of formal therapy sessions can enrich the overall therapeutic process.
Support would be given to develop in?subject areas you are not experienced in – Experience teaching English, Maths and projects-based learning would be beneficial but not essential. If you have a passion for helping others, a willingness to develop, with a can-do approach to education, this is a great opportunity for you!
MK College will treat all applicants fairly and with respect, irrespective of their background, disability, or any other individual characteristic. We particularly encourage applications from people with backgrounds which are currently under-represented within Milton Keynes College. All offers made to successful candidates are subject to satisfactory outcomes to a range of pre-employment checks including a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS). In addition, security clearance is required for all prison services positions up to Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) level.
