Job description

An opportunity has arisen to join our friendly, hard-working and progressive Ultrasound team at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust. The ultrasound department scans approximately 40,000 patients per year in a variety of clinical settings, working alongside Consultant Radiologists and supporting Radiology and Obstetric Registrar Ultrasound training together with an on-going Trainee Sonographer programme.
We are looking for a self-motivated and well organised Sonographer with proven ability to work autonomously. As an experienced and competent Sonographer, you will understand the need for a caring and compassionate approach along with attention to detail. You will be expected to play a key role in the delivery of a quality ultrasound service over a 7 day working week.
As a minimum, you will undertake obstetric, gynaecological and abdominal ultrasound examinations providing independent reports - this includes early pregnancy assessment, anomaly and fetal growth obstetric scans in accordance with FASP guidelines, gynaecological emergency, acute surgical admissions and one-stop clinics for haematuria and post-menopausal bleeding. Specialist interest in MSK, small parts or neck sonography would be desirable but is not essential.
The ultrasound department has 5 dedicated clinical rooms and provides Sonographer support to other clinics at the Royal Cornwall Hospital site. The service is also delivered across 6 community sites. All Sonographers are expected to rotate through some or all of these sites, The ability to travel independently between sites and have unrestricted access to a motor vehicle insured for business purposes.
We have a Managed Equipment Service with Canon, the main rooms at RCHT being equipped with Canon Aplio 550’s with Aplio 450’s at the community sites. Imaging archiving is supported by the Insignia PACS system.
This is a part time post working 19 hours per week, which will encompass some flexible working at weekends and evenings.
You will have the DMU / PgCert / PgDip or equivalent. Consideration will be given to Sonographers from any professional background provided at least a CASE-accredited PgCert in obstetrics is held. Due to current training commitments we are not able to consider applicants with qualifications which are not CASE-accredited and where further training would be required to conform to FASP guidelines.

To work flexibly within the team to maximise the use of equipment and facilities, offering choice of appointment time and location for the patients. This includes weekend and extended day working

To ensure communication with patients is sensitive to the circumstances of the appointment
To take part in departmental audit programme
To maintain professional standards at all times, upholding professional codes of practice
To fulfil Trust requirements for mandatory training and appraisal
To undertake appropriate CPD including acquisition of further scanning skills if required
To support workforce development in ultrasound scanning skills
