JOB TITLE: Vehicle Safety Test Engineer

WHAT TO EXPECT
This is where it all begins. We develop the new concepts that go on to become new Jaguars and Land Rovers. So, the emphasis is on building strong strategic, technical and financial foundations right from the start.
You’ll be responsible for arranging and conducting component, system or vehicle tests to meet development, CAE and sign-off requirements. A wide range of quasi-static and dynamic test rigs are used to evaluate Pedestrian Impact, Interior Head Impacts, Bumpers, IPs, Body/Chassis structures, Sensing Systems, Seats, Restraints, and other systems and components.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Liaise with CoC's, Safety Delivery teams and team leader to provide test service required.
Liaise with internal depts including compliance teams and with external accreditation agencies.
Deliver test timing plans in accordance with programme demand.
Conduct tests in line with internal and external test standards.
Represent department and company at external bodies and meetings.
Produce sign-off reports suitable for homologation.
Design of and modification to test rigs and fixtures in response to legislation and test protocols.
Creation and maintenance of JLR Way documentation for test rigs.
Review and improve processes and implement change
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Mechanical Engineering background.
Knowledge of instrumentation and principles of use.
Experience of test laboratory environment.
Ability to evaluate system and component failure modes, suggest & define further investigative methods to refine understanding / advise on revised evaluation methods for proposed fixes.
Good communication and presentation skills to all levels.
Flexibility to work OT and Shifts to support programme delivery.
Engineering degree or in process of completing.
Experience with using hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.
Experience or familiarity of safety related legislation and test protocols.
Trained or experienced in structured problem-solving tools and methods, or green belt trained.
Experience of using data acquisition equipment and handling instrumentation.
Data analysis and PC skills including Catman, MTS, DIAdem, High speed cameras.
Experience of Designing Experimental tests and DoE.
Cross site working – Gaydon, Whitley and external test houses.
Familiar with principles of QMS, IATF16949, ISO 9001.
