A bit about us
2024 is a big year for us as we turn 200 years young! We are proud of our long standing history in campaigning for a better world for animal welfare. We were the first to introduce a law to protect animals and have been working hard ever since to ensure that all animals can live free from pain and suffering. Through our campaigns we raise standards of care, and awareness of issues, affecting animals today. Our vision is to one day live in a world where all animals are respected and treated with compassion. And that is what we work towards every day.

What a typical day might look like
Here at RSPCA we know it's a cliche but no two days are the same, as a Veterinary Surgeon we've added a short summary of what a typical day might look like. Please also find attached a job description
We take a holistic and team-based approach to the individual animal treatment and recognise the importance of dedicating as much time as we can focussing on the welfare of the animals that come into our care. This means there is limited contact with the animal-owning public, instead you get to work with some amazing, passionate, and supportive team members to really focus on what is best for the animals you see.
As part of the larger Animal Centre team, this role allows you to have a unique relationship with the animals on site, from intake, rehabilitation through to rehoming, enabling a full case continuity. This role also provides access to the wider RSPCA veterinary team, allowing potential for further opportunities and visits to other facilities
What makes a great Veterinary Surgeon?
Previous experience working within the charity sector or abroad in neuter clinics would be valuable. We work to a high welfare and clinical standard and know that we are working for the benefit of our animal patients first and foremost.
A good level of pragmatism and the ability to work effectively in a team. We have an experienced team who can support your skill development and gain experience across veterinary disciplines, including soft tissue surgery, ophthalmology, clinical pathology and shelter medicine
You will be performing routine operations such as neutering, dentals, amputations, as well as triaging animals brought in by the Inspectorate.
