The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in assessing and establishing Health and Safety (H&S) governance frameworks. This role involves enhancing our corporate leadership's understanding of significant risks and areas of non-compliance, ensuring that work-related risks are minimised to the fullest extent possible.
The candidate will also be responsible for implementing agreed-upon key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensuring the robust, consistent, and effective management of Health and safety workplace risks across all services. Wiltshire Council, like all employers, must adhere to stringent health and safety regulations. Non-compliance can result in severe legal consequences, service disruptions, financial losses, and reputational damage.
Although the Council has maintained a positive safety record thus far, the risk of harm remains ever-present. Implementing a modern, auditable safety system with real-time information and a robust governance structure is crucial to fulfilling our obligations and achieving our objective of being a healthy and efficient organisation.

The ability to integrate "practical and appropriate health and safety measures" into the Council's risk management ethos. Enhance the Council's status as a 'learning' organisation through the enhancement of Health and safety incident recording, investigation, and dissemination of lessons learned. Experience of monitoring and the effective management of Health and safety risks across various services within the complexity of the councils H&S remit.
To develop leadership and competency skills for managers that improves health and safety performance. Experience of resilience and proactive engagement in prioritising health and safety considerations during the planning, consultation, and commissioning of work with or from other employers will be an advantage.
