Job description

The Company:

Phlux is an award-winning tech start-up based in Sheffield, UK. The company has commercialised a breakthrough infrared sensor that will be at the heart of driver safety using LIDAR, securing communication networks with quantum cryptography, and seeing the invisible with 3D imaging.

The company raised £4M of investment in November 2022 and currently employs 12 members of staff divided between Operations, R&D, Sales, Engineering and Management.

The Team:

The successful applicant will join our team as we develop our second product range for LIDAR, advanced driver assisted systems and security systems. We are looking for two years of industry students to work in our Engineering team to develop automated solutions for semiconductor device testing. The candidate will help to scale up manufacturing and testing capabilities and ensure that all devices are compliant with internal and external customer quality requirements.

We’re currently a team of 12 people looking to scale to 20 by the end of 2024. The applicant should have excellent organisational and communication skills and be comfortable working with engineers, technicians, technical sales, and management.

Problem:

Our infrared sensors are manufactured as semiconductor wafers, with thousands of individual devices produced on each wafer. Every device on a semiconductor wafer needs to be measured to ensure that it meets the quality standards of a given market, e.g. automotive. Phlux’s devices have unique test requirements, so the problem to be solved is that we now need to develop a scalable way to test and verify the performance of each device in order to identify failures in a cost-efficient manner. The solution will require electronic test, visual inspection (machine vision) and automated translation between devices.
