An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our award-winning Youth Service at Nottingham Children's Hospital as a Youth Worker in the Children and Young People's Kidney Network.
We require a highly motivated and enthusiastic professional who is passionate about working with young people in line with a Youth Work Curriculum, for young people living with long-term health conditions.
The Youth Worker will work as part of a multi-professional team caring for young people with long term kidney conditions. The successful candidate will work closely with the hospital youth service to deliver opportunities that contribute to positive healthcare transition for the young people at Nottingham Children’s Hospital.
Main duties of the job
To deliver an appropriate youth work programme for young people living with long-term kidney conditions, and attending Nottingham Children’s Hospital, in accordance with the principles and values of youth work and the changing needs of the young people.
To participate in accreditation opportunities for young people engaging in the Youth Service and those attending Nottingham Children’s Hospital.
To contribute to the development of healthcare transition services and to act as an advocate and source of support for young patients at Nottingham University Hospitals.
To effectively record the achievements and outcomes of the work undertaken throughout each year.
To participate as a professional member of the Youth Service and contribute to the care of the patients of the Trust, relating to their all round cultural and diversity, developmental and emotional needs.

The Children's renal and urology service at QMC is the hub for the EMEESY children's kidney network (www.emeesy.nhs.uk) which cares for young people with kidney disease across a large geographical area. Our award-winning Youth Service supports young people ( from 11-24) living with a wide range of long-term medical conditions and disabilities in both children's and adult services.
The Youth Service aims to provide:
- SUPPORT for young people who access hospital services, giving them places to go, positive activities to do and someone to talk to
- EMPOWERMENT, enabling young people to have their voices heard and influence decision-making at various levels of the Trust
- OPPORTUNITY, providing a diverse range of personal and social development opportunities and a smooth transition into adult services, delivered by a skilled workforce
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Youth Worker will play a vital role within the Youth Team, as well as working closely with the renal service to deliver opportunities that contribute to positive healthcare support and transition for the young people at Nottingham Children’s Hospital.
The ideal candidate will stay up-to-date with Youth Work Practice and accreditation opportunities and be able to demonstrate positive outcomes within their practice.
A Youth Work degree and a wealth of experience of working with young people within a wide range of settings is essential. The successful applicant will be required to work some evenings and weekends, along with Youth Work residentials.

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

ID and Right to work checks: NUH authenticate ID and right to work documentation including passports and driving licenses through a system called Trust ID. NUH will scan your ID and right to work documentation in to the Trust ID system at your face to face ID appointment. The system will run a check against the key security features within your documentation. The system will provide us with an outcome of your check which will be stored securely on your personal file along with all other pre-employment check documentation.
