This post is funded from The National Lottery Million Hours Community Fund and will be targeted at the Bidston St James area in Birkenhead and is a time limited post to March 2026.
Hours:
13 hours per week
Evening work- 3pm-7pm
Availability to cover school holidays.
Main Duties:
1. To make contact and develop positive relationships with young people (both individually and in groups) in a range of youth work settings
2. To engage and support young people in the social, recreational, educational and decision-making opportunities
3. To identify the developmental needs and mental health of the individual, and groups of, young people and to build work around these to address this
4. To work with staff and individually to create and manage opportunities for young people to achieve the following
· to encourage, support and challenge young people to take up new experiences
· to encourage, support and challenge young people to make decisions and to do things for to themselves
· to encourage, support young people to participate in activities which support their emotional well being and mental health
· to enable young people to develop their values and self-respect
· to promote equality of opportunity and positive relationships between individuals and groups
· to support other staff in accompanying young people on trips and events both within and outside of the centre, project base or local neighbourhood
5. To assist in the young people’s learning and to evaluate the learning process.
6. To support service development by contributing to planning, delivery and monitoring of local provisions through:
· meeting at the start and conclusion of each session to plan and review the work
· participating in team meetings to undertake planning, monitoring and evaluation processes
· sharing the administrative tasks of running youth work sessions (e.g. membership, attendance, etc.)
· undertaking practical tasks in running the youth work session
· recording any individual planning, monitoring and evaluation of their work
7. To create, implement and deliver informal educative sessions, trips, residentials etc with staff and young people
8. To ensure all aspects of recorded and accredited outcomes are evidenced
Experience & Skills
An understanding of Safeguarding procedures and practice
Supporting Youth Workers in the development of a large scale youth centre/project
Support Youth Workers in the development of productive partnerships
Support delivery of high-quality face to face youth work in a variety of settings
Challenging inappropriate young people and staff behaviour
Support the planning of structured and targeted youth work programmes in a universal setting
Ensure the effective participation of young people in the development of youth work provision
To support Youth Workers to deliver information, advice and guidance
To support the achievement of predetermined targets e.g. service level agreement, performance targets.
Support the planning and management of services and activities
Support the methodical approach to ensuring accurate records are maintained
Ability to build effective relationships with colleagues, partners, and young people.
Effective interpersonal skills in dealing with people from a wide range of backgrounds
