This is a 1-year postdoc position to start on 1st September 2024, funded by Prof. David Jordan grant, the Simons Collaboration on Global Categorical Symmetries, conducting research in quantum topology using the theory of quantum groups and the framework of higher categories.
The Opportunity:
The postdoc’s primary responsibility will be to conduct research, both interfacing with the themes above and developing their own independent research program. The postdoc will also interact with a vibrant research community comprising other postdocs, graduate students, and senior staff from the Hodge Institute and Edinburgh Mathematical Physics Group. There are optional opportunities to co-supervise postgraduate research and to organise advanced undergraduate or postgraduate courses.
This post is full-time (35 hours per week).
Your skills and attributes for success:
Ph.D. in pure mathematics or theoretical physics (to be awarded by 1 September, 2024).
A demonstrated interest in developing the mathematical structure of topological quantum field and higher categories.
Background in quantum topology and related subjects.
Desire and/or experience in fostering cohesiveness of a research group (e.g. leading informal reading seminars, organising team-building activities) and promoting a positive and inclusive research culture.
