Additional Learning Support Assistant
Part Time / Up to 20 hours / Permanent

Leicester Adult Education (LAE) offers a wide programme of further education qualification courses as well as extensive community-based provision. We have a diverse, enthusiastic student community supported by well experienced, dedicated staff who aim to support learners in achieving their goals.
Join our highly effective Additional Learning Support team, to provide crucial Learning Support for adult learners with educational, disability and mental health support needs. Working in a professional yet welcoming environment, you’ll have the opportunity to thrive and develop with support from team members and managers. This is a part-time, permanent position working up to 20 hours per week. Our classes run term time in the morning, afternoon, and evenings, with some weekend sessions. Each session is 2 - 2.5hrs and subject areas include: arts, digital skills, English, maths, languages and more. We provide classes across the city in a variety of community settings, as well as the main Adult Education College, so the ability to travel is essential. We currently have vacancies within Beaumont Leys, St Matthews, and Highfields area.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll provide personalised support that meets the needs of each individual learner, considering their unique circumstances to achieve positive outcomes. Working collaboratively with the tutors and learners, you’ll actively promote engagement with class tasks across the curriculum areas and community settings. You’ll participate in evaluating the effectiveness of the Learning Support, attend pre-session briefings, reviews, and team meetings and provide exam support for learners in line with reasonable adjustments / invigilation.
What you’ll need
You’ll have experience of working with adults with learning difficulties in an educational setting. With the ability to engage with, encourage and motivate learners, you’ll promote independence and be committed to supporting individuals. You’ll demonstrate sensitivity, tact and compassion when dealing with vulnerable people and communicate effectively with colleagues, and other professionals to ensure successful completion of learning goals. Using proficient IT skills, you’ll be able to create and maintain accurate electronic records. You’ll have English and Maths skills at a functional level in a learning context (GCSE in Maths and English grade A-C or 4-9, or Functional Skills Level 2 English and Maths).
We are also interested in hearing from individuals who have a specialism in BSL or mental health.
