We are looking for the right person to join our busy Revenues and Benefits Team at North Devon Council as an Apprentice Administration Support Assistant, based at Brynsworthy Environment Centre, Barnstaple. You will be studying towards Level 2 Business and Admin whilst receiving on the job training from our experienced Revenues and Benefits Team.
You will be trained to support the Revenues and Benefits Team and help to provide an effective and efficient service across the Council.
You will need to have:
· Minimum 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and Maths, or equivalent qualification/experience
· Experience of using excel spreadsheets and word documents
· Be a confident and assertive communicator, both written & verbal
· Be able to organise and prioritise your workload to meet deadlines
· Some basic work experience, this can include a Saturday job/charity work, outside school/college activities or belonging to a club, organisation or society
The postholder will be trained to:
Use a variety of IT systems for extraction and accurate input of data in respect of Revenues and Benefits. e.g. IBS for Council Tax, Non Domestic Rates and Housing Benefits, Comino for scanning and retrieving documents and for work flow processes.
Scan correspondence and forms for the Revenues and Benefits Section using Document Imaging System.
Accurately sort incoming post, log back returned documents, find account reference numbers and pass any complaints to a senior officer.
Accurately index post by identifying each document this will involve checking other IT systems.
Ensure scanning and indexing are up to date to enable efficient retrieval of records.
Prioritise workload to ensure business objectives are achieved and customer requirements are met.
Accurately and efficiently maintain records, legislative manuals and supplies of stationery.
Process and issue Council Tax and Non Domestic Rates bills.
Issue review letters to properties where building works are being undertaken and benefit review letters.
Check outstanding property inspections updating the database and issue documents as required.
Work closely with the team leader and team to identify, agree and exceed volumes and quality standards in all aspects of the role, both for you and for the team.
Deal with basic customer telephone enquiries.
Carry out commensurate duties in Resources when required by the Manager.
