The Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) as required by the Mental Health Act is based at the centralised Duty Hub at St Ann’s hospital carrying out Mental Health act assessments as part of a duty Rota .
To liaise with GP’s and other key partner agencies to develop and maintain multi-disciplinary and inter-agency working. To provide a high quality comprehensive assessment for Service Users, involving as appropriate the views and input from Nearest Relatives, carers , service providers and partner agencies (Trust and external)
To work closely with the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team, where appropriate carry out joint assessments and consider admission to hospital either formally or informally, or refer / signpost to alternative least restrictive alternatives to admission.
To support the Trust in ensuring effective gate keeping of all admissions, liaising with the Crisis and Resolution Home Treatment team and medical colleagues as appropriate.
To consider referrals and assess for both Guardianship and Community Treatment Orders in discussion with the AMHP Lead.
The main contacts of the post will be other AMHPs on the duty rota, AMHP candidates, BEH health care professionals / co-ordinators, Drs in the locality teams, Team Managers, Senior Trust & Local Authority Managers, Legal services, Police, Local Authority Staff, independent and voluntary sector organisations, Service Providers, service users, their relatives, carers and members of the public.
