The role

Working within our housing team and with colleagues across the company this is an opportunity to transform your part of Cornwall, delivering tenancy management services and pro-actively engaging with our communities to make a difference for the lives of our residents.

As an Area Housing Officer, it’s how you work with people that matters. You will build strong relationships, working in partnership with Council services, the Police and other providers to deliver improvements, support new ways of working and make a positive impact every day.

For these roles, we want you working in/around the Truro or Bude/Camelford areas. We want you to care about where you work and make a difference for these residents and communities.

What you’ll be doing

• Putting our customers at the heart of what you do, listening and then working with others to resolve housing issues, improve neighbourhoods and create places people can be proud to call home.
• Proactively working your networks, finding the right people who can help, whether it’s public services, statutory agencies or the voluntary sector, and bringing people together to solve problems. Being that person who makes something happen.
• Keeping residents safe through understanding about the places where our residents live; repairs to homes, how to address damp and mould, and how we should act to keep our buildings compliant and improve fire safety.
• Challenging others where its right to do so, whether that’s taking action against people who breach their tenancy or commit anti-social behaviour, or its simply something we’ve said we’ll do, and we’ve not done it. It’s doing the right thing, and not the easy thing.

What you’ll need to be a success

• Be someone who likes working with people, who can manage difficult conversations. You have experience of working in a housing environment or a related area where you can demonstrate these skills. Some of our best Housing Officers aren’t always from housing!
• If you have a working knowledge of landlord and tenant law, housing legislation or anything around anti-social behaviour this will help, but we can tell you this so you need to be a person who can have confidence in and understand this more technical part of the role.
• Ideally, this means you’ll be educated to ‘A’ Level or NVQ3 level or with equivalent experience, but your life-skills and customer experience are equally important.
• You’ll be able to demonstrate your ability to solve a problem, be professional and be able to communicate effectively with all sorts of people, whether this is residents, elected members, statutory agencies or customer care.
• And you’ll need to get around, be visible and see people in our communities so access to a vehicle and a full driving license is important.

Base: This role is hybrid working from home and your ‘patch’ is either in the area of West or North Cornwall.
