AREA SUPPORT MANAGER-3 posts – 1 x C&M, 1 x C&L, 1 x GM
As part of the new frontline leadership structure, we are excited to be advertising the post of Area Support Manager. This role is a vital part of the area leadership team, answering to the Head of Operations, and providing professional leadership to the newly formed Duty Officer teams. They will provide welfare support and undertake people management functions for the two area-based teams of Duty Officers (14 staff); making sure the team are available to support the area with the management of ‘on the day’ issues and able to provide the Trust’s initial leadership response to a significant or major incident. The Area Support Manager will be expected to maintain their commander competencies, allowing them to undertake regular shifts on the Duty Officer roster to support their team, and to provide supervision to their direct reports.
The role is area based, and the base location has an element of flexibility within the area footprint, although travel across the area will be expected. This role is expected to contribute to the area on call structure and would attract payment as per Agenda for Change terms and conditions.
They will coordinate the areas event and mass gathering management, any regional requests that require an area wide response (such as planning activities, crisis management, etc), and provide support to the Head of Operations.
This role is pivotal to the success of the new frontline leadership model, and we are looking for individuals with a proven track record of people management, experience of operational and/or tactical command, and the ability to manage competing demands on a day-to-day basis and deliver on longer term project work. This role will work closely with the Head of Operations and the Area Director, and will be an opportunity for someone who has worked at sector level to step up into a post that provides exposure to area wide working as part of their career development. It is essential for this role that the successful candidate has demonstrable experience of working in a commander role, either at live incidents, or through exercising, and that they have an in date NOS.
They will contribute to the coordination of high-level incident and disciplinary investigations and will coordinate the investigations dashboard, integrated action tracker, and other risk management mitigations.
The Area Support Manager will primarily be expected to work Monday to Friday.Any unsocial hours would be paid as per Agenda for Change terms and conditions. They will also be entitled to claim unsocial hours for any supervision/mentorship shifts they work alongside their teams during the out of hours period, although this is not expected to be a significant amount of time.
North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.
Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.
We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.
Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.
We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
