Artist in Residence - Job Description
In this one-year fixed term contract, you will play an active role in the creation and delivery of curricular and extra-curricular projects, run regular workshops, provide individual pupil support, run regular clubs to support the extra-curricular provision, accompany students on trips to galleries, and take on some technician roles.
The art department is based over two main teaching rooms, alongside these are six other dedicated rooms, Textiles, Ceramics, Digital arts (computer suite, iPads, photo studio), a darkroom, Printmaking and sixth form studio. The latter gives older students an uninterrupted opportunity to work on their personal study during the day and after school, to supplement classwork. Our spaces are well equipped with facilities for pupils to work in a wide range of media. Including: printmaking (etching, lino, mono and screen); 3D (ceramics, casting and sculpting); Textiles (machining, dressmaking, experimental techniques, printing and weaving), Drawing and Painting, Photography (digital, darkroom techniques, studio and experimental photography) and Digital Arts (Adobe Creative Cloud: Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro and Procreate).
Lower school students study Art and Design once a week, GCSE three times a week and A Level five times a week.
The residency offers an excellent opportunity for an artist who wishes to develop their own studio practice and gain teaching experience, working in the independent sector in a boarding environment. Access to studio space, food during term-time and accommodation will be provided. The artist will have the opportunity to have an exhibition at the school at the end of the residency.
