Riding Lights Theatre Company is looking for a new Artistic Director to join us as we move into a new phase of the company’s life.
Riding Lights is one of the UK’s most productive and long-established independent theatre companies, founded in 1977 and based at Friargate Theatre, the company’s home in York city centre.
From small scale and community venues to regional and West End theatres, Riding Lights has carved out a reputation for powerful theatre with a spiritual heart, balancing new writing with classic plays.
Together with the new Executive Director, the Artistic Director will be instrumental in pushing us forward and collaborating with artists and external partners to develop our programme of work. Both Directors will share a considered, innovative, and resilient vision for an exciting future for the company, growing from our rich past and core ethos. They will also have an income-generating mindset, and ideas for increasing membership.
If you are our new Artistic Director, you will have a playful approach to your creativity and a commitment to collaborative co-creation. You will be an experienced and creative theatre practitioner, although not necessarily a theatre director. You will be a confident leader with experience in delivering engaging and exciting experiences with a range of partners. You will be an excellent communicator and ambassador for the company and have a significant track record in audience-focused roles. You will also have a clear understanding of the christian faith and an openness to how that might be expressed. There is a genuine occupational requirement for the successful applicant to be a committed christian, in order to undertake the requirements of the role with integrity and authenticity.
