We are looking to recruit an Assistant Operations Manager to join our team!


The purpose of the Assistant Operations Manager is to safely lead the operations teams in the Hull and Immingham Border Control Posts, which provides logistical support to the inspection agencies including the unloading and reloading of containers and trailers.


Both Immingham and Hull will be operational between the hours of 0600 – 2200 - 7 days per week. Hours are subject to operational need and may change.


You will be expected to work at either location, as this is a Humber operation.


Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the management and development of a high performing, safety driven team.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all operations are planned, managed, and executed in a safe, efficient and productive manner.
  • Accountability for the Health & Safety of the operatives on the terminal
  • Accountable for ensuring the operation operates in line with all relevant legislation.
  • Accountable for the preparation of daily, weekly labour plans to ensure the ongoing needs of the BCP and inspection agencies are met as efficiently as possible.
  • Responsible for continuously monitoring the use and treatment of all plant and equipment ensuring all assets are always maintained to a safe standard.
  • Responsible for managing the day-to-day container devanning process to ensure all containers are devanned in a timely manner to meet the inspection agency requirements and avoid any potential complaints.
  • Accountable in producing the weekly inventory audits to ensure accurate stock records are maintained.
  • Responsible for ensuring all SSOW & RAs are maintained and applied to the operations.
  • Accountable for ensuring agreed KPI’s, productivity & delivery targets are regularly achieved.
  • Accountable for maintaining standards of health and safety, hygiene and security including biosecurity of inspection bays.
  • Monitors costs, manage stock control and reconcile with stock management system.
  • Accountable for liaising with customers, suppliers and key stakeholders
  • In the event of an emergency and as part of the Terminal’s emergency response plan, you will be accountable / responsible for acting as a site main controller.
  • Accountable for accurate and timely billing.
  • Responsible for maintaining a high level of housekeeping across the BCPs.
  • Deputises for BCP Management as required.

There may be other duties in which it is reasonably expected that you will carry out during your employ.


Skills, experiences, qualifications, and competencies

  • A safety focused individual with a proven track record of managing the safety of a team in a high paced, intense environment.
  • Strong IT skills evidenced in an operational environment, knowledge of Excel, autostore and Destin8 desirable.
  • Proven Operations Management experience with regards to commodity unloading and loading operations
  • Strong business and commercial acumen
  • Articulate and able to use a variety of communication channels
  • Demonstratable Leadership Skills
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Able to manage resources to deal with an ever-changing schedule and priorities
  • Work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Agile working – this is a humber role, Flexible in approach to hours and work location
  • Strong knowledge of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) within a business setting
  • Good understanding of P&L management
  • Strong work ethic supported by the ability to make decisions and solve problems.
  • Excellent numeracy and literacy skills
  • Full UK Driving Licence essential (please ensure you note this on your CV, if this is missing you will automatically be excluded)
