Assistant Quantity Surveyor (M&E)

Our client is a mechanical and electrical contractor who specialize in retail shopfitting projects across the UK. They are based in Castleford and have an excellent reputation and history of producing quality, fast track fit out and new build projects across the sector for leading retail clients. Many of these clients are large food retailers such as Morrisons, Asda, Sainsburys, Marks & Spencer etc… They are a true end-to-end service from store construction and consolidation to fixture procurement, projects, and mechanical & electrical installation.

Outline of Role:

We are recruiting for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor (M&E) to join the clients commercial M&E division. The successful candidate will report to a Senior QS (M&E) and will be looking after refit schemes across different work streams ranging from short projects around 1 weeks up to larger projects around 6 months. The value of projects will also range from tens of thousands to circa £2 million. They will be responsible for everything from the commencement to the completion of projects including measuring, scoping, and tendering the works at inception, managing, and reporting of the works throughout dealing with both subcontractors and clients and final accounting all works upon completion.

Skills and experience required:

• A minimum of 1 year spent in a similar capacity within the construction industry, ideally with an M&E Contractor, a main contractor, or an interior fit out contractor.
• M&E installation experience
• Good sound knowledge of commercial and construction contracts particularly JCT contractual arrangements.
• Preferred experience in retail construction (although not essential).
• Good numerical/IT skills.
• Good verbal/English skills.
• Capable of identifying and managing risk.
• Good negotiation skills
