About the role
Key objectives for you in this role will include:
- Ensuring we attract and retain the best and most diverse people.
- Supporting our teams to succeed with excellent central frameworks for performance, planning, internal communication and governance.
- Advancing inclusivity and accessibility – ensuring our policies and practices are genuinely sector-leading.
In the first year, key projects will include:
- Guiding the development of a new approach to Learning and Development
- Leading us toward Disability Confidence
- Leading a review and implement change to our reward (pay) and benefits
- Selecting and implementing a new HR System
You will be given autonomy to shape, own, and deliver a key part of our strategic plan and be part of an established and high-performing senior management team.
Who we are looking for
We are open-minded about your professional background, though expect you to have operated in an HR position and can articulate how and why effective people strategies enable people to deliver. There is no expectation that you will have worked in an SU before, and we will consider the transferable backgrounds carefully. We are also open-minded to flexible working and part-time working requests.

This role is part-time, between 3 and 4 days per week. We aim to be a flexible employer and we support and promote part-time working, including within the senior management team. We ask all our team to work from the office for 40% of their time to help maintain our ‘one team’ culture.
