Industrial Placement

Manchester
September-2024
What does this team do?
Our IT Audit & Assurance team focuses specifically on technology, serving the public interest and giving confidence that companies have the correct processes and controls over the technology they use, especially in the production of financial and non-financial information.
Across both audit and assurance projects, you’ll gain an understanding of how key people run their business, what technology and digital processes they use, how this connects to their broader business strategy, and how they manage and control the risks.
Technology continues to become ever more important as companies use more emerging tech like robotic automation and artificial intelligence. You’ll learn to speak ‘tech’ in a way that can be understood, explaining to others the impact of IT issues on the company and its financial results. A highly sought after and rare skill.
You’ll get to work on a range of businesses from large international companies listed in the FTSE100, to smaller entities. Each will give you invaluable knowledge and insight.
What skills and academic qualifications do I need?
This programme is for university students who are doing well academically and want to test their skills in the real world.
You need to be on track to achieve a predicted degree classification of 2:1 or above in any discipline and you must be in the penultimate year of your course.
If you’re fascinated by business and can’t wait to get stuck into complex projects that make a difference, you’ll fit right in.
What kind of work will I do?
Imagine trying out a career for a year before you commit. Our Industrial Placements are a great way to explore your professional interests, discover new ambitions and make sure you’re on the right career path.
For 12 months you’ll be a key part of our business – training and working alongside our first-year graduates. You’ll do real work from day one, using what you’ve learnt at university to help solve complex problems. You’ll help us push boundaries and learn skills that will set you up for an exciting career.
In the IT Audit and Assurance team you’ll be:
- Speaking directly to clients to understand their business, processes and controls particularly in relation to technology. You’ll put this knowledge to use in our specialist audit and assurance tools and systems.
- Identifying risks associated with businesses and their use of technology.
- Designing and executing testing processes and controls to ensure that they work effectively.
- Reporting back any findings through presentations and reports.
What’s in it for me?
You’ll be paid a competitive salary and if you impress us, you could be offered a place on one of our Graduate Programmes at the end of your placement. You’ll get a real feel for who we are and if we’re the right fit for your future. All while experiencing our shared sense of purpose:

- We do the right thing: We believe our people are at their best when they connect their work to a greater cause. At Deloitte, you’ll find a place where you can be your true self, thrive professionally and personally, and make a shared impact that reaches further and means more.
How will I develop?
You’ll receive a comprehensive induction and training plan. And we’ll assign you a buddy, so you’ll always have a friendly face to turn to. There will be regular check-ins with the wider team, who’ll support and encourage you every step of the way.
As an IT Specialist, you’ll learn how businesses use technology to help them achieve their objectives and how different organisations deal with risks. You’ll also learn to talk about tech-related matters in a way that everyone can understand.
If things go well, you might even be offered a position on our Graduate Programme. Offers are made based on the location you have taken your placement, so we encourage you to think carefully about where you want to start your graduate career at Deloitte when applying.
Our commitment to you
We work hard to create an environment where you can experience a purpose you believe in, the freedom to be you, and the capacity to go further than ever before.
We want you. The true you. Your own strengths, perspective and personality. We’re nurturing a culture where everyone belongs, feels supported and heard, and is empowered to make a valuable, personal contribution. You can be sure we’ll take your wellbeing seriously, too. Because it’s only when you’re comfortable and at your best that you can make the kind of impact you, and we, live for.
Your expertise is our capability, so we’ll make sure it never stops growing. Whether it’s from the complex work you do, or the people you collaborate with, you’ll learn every day. Through world-class development, you’ll gain invaluable technical and personal skills. Whatever your level, you’ll learn how to lead.
