Blood Production Assistant
Job Summary
Working as part of the processing team you will be responsible for the manufacturing of all blood that comes in from donors. This is a vital part of the organisation, as this is where we make the blood products that go on to save people lives.
Join us and you’ll handle a wide range of tasks, including the processing of blood donations, using a variety of specialised laboratory equipment. We’ll also look to you to keep our computerised production records up-to-date and to make sure that any incoming blood supplies are properly received and accounted for.
It’s a role that demands great team working skills, meticulous attention to detail and the ability to precisely follow written instructions.
Main duties of the job
In this role you will be responsible for :-
- Manufacturing the blood donations from our donors, with the support of your supervisor and other team members
- Undertaking precise repetitive and routine tasks, operating equipment and handling blood bags on a regular basis
- Manually handling equipment on a daily basis weighing up to 13 kgs, with or without mechanical aids, with appropriate training
- Standing for long periods, and working at times at low temperatures while in or around -40 degree walk-in freezers
- Following standard work, meeting productivity targets and achieving outputs while following standard operating procedures on a daily basis. In line with Good Manufacturing Practice and quality standards
- Adherence to relevant dress code.
You will be required to work set hours and days, which may include weekends and will include bank holidays as per the roster within the department with appropriate notice.
About You
Experience and Knowledge
- Knowledge and / or experience of working with computers and Information Technology
Qualifications and Training
- GCSE in Maths and English at Grade C or above is desirable
- Demonstrate commitment to own continuous learning and development

This vacancy is on a fixed term/ secondment basis for 6-12 months. Secondments will be considered for NHSBT staff wishing to apply for this role.
Full and part time hours are available.
