About the University of Central Lancashire

Welcome to the University of Central Lancashire. We’re the international, multi-campus university that’s leading the way in modern learning today, bringing life-changing opportunities to our students and the communities we serve. Innovative by nature, we offer courses which combine academic excellence with real-world teaching, creating an environment which empowers our students to succeed in education, at work, and for life.

We are one of the UK’s largest universities, with a thriving community of around 42,000 students and colleagues from over 100 countries. Our main campus is located in Preston, in the North West of England, and we have others in Burnley, Blackburn, Westlakes (Cumbria), London and Cyprus. Our work makes an enormous contribution to social mobility and economic growth across Lancashire, the North West, and beyond. Meanwhile, our international impact continues to grow thanks to our world-leading research, our 120+ international partners, and our 200,000+ strong alumni network. In 2024, the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) placed us among the top 7% of universities worldwide.

This is the University where opportunity creates success. We’re looking for someone who will inspire us to even greater achievements in the years ahead.

About the role

We’re seeking ambitious and dynamic individuals who will shape our strategic direction, bringing the best out of others while upholding the highest standards of governance. This is an influential role where you’ll have a crucial part to play in transforming lives. You’ll be a force for positive change, championing our efforts to advance equality, diversity and inclusion. We’re looking for people who bring varied experiences and backgrounds that reflect our vibrant University community. We especially encourage applications from under-represented groups, including those from minoritised ethnic communities and those with disabilities.

What we need from you:

  • A strong commitment to higher education.
  • Relevant experience in fields such as education, community engagement, finance, accountancy and audit, human resources, IT and cyber, commercial enterprise, and health.
  • The ability to apply your experience effectively as a University Governor.
  • Demonstrable leadership skills, with a track record of supporting strategic organisational change.
  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal skills, and high emotional intelligence.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strategic thinking and a talent for critical information analysis.
  • The capacity to provide constructive feedback, challenge, and support.
  • The ability to add value and act as an ambassador for the University.
  • A dedication to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion.

At the University of Central Lancashire, we celebrate a culture and workforce that mirrors the diversity of our student community and wider society. We value everyone's commitment to collaborative achievement, community support, pride in our University, and championing the opportunities we create together. We look forward to discovering how your unique skills, experience and ideas will inspire us to future success.
