Job title: Public Health Business Development & Engagement Officer
Contract: Temporary 12 month fixed term contract 
Hours per week: Job share 22 hours per week (hybrid there is some flexibility to work at home as well as in the office)
Grade / Salary: PO2 £37,336 - £40,221 per annum (pro rata)

The Leeds Public Health Resource Centre (PHRC), is part of the Public Health Workforce Development Team and is a specialist library that serves the Public Health workforce of Leeds. The team aims to support and develop anyone with an interest in or responsibility for promoting health and wellbeing and reducing health inequalities in the City. We are looking for a job share for the role of Business Development and Engagement Officer.

About you
To be considered for this role you will need to:

  • Have good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Have experience of engagement work and partnership working.
  • Have excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and work across several workstreams.
  • Have skills and experience in event planning, promotion, and marketing (both online and in-person).
  • Have knowledge and experience of how to create digital content that is accessible using different social media platforms and the ability to understand language and concepts around technical and digital matters.
  • Be educated to undergraduate degree level.

Your role 

As our Business Development and Engagement Officer, you will be responsible for reaching people in Leeds to promote the PHRC, what it offers and how this could be useful to them within their role and organisation. You will do this by planning and delivering events, attending workforce networking / partnership events across the City, delivering presentations and workshops to workforce groups and supporting the planning and delivery of our annual Public Health Conference.
You will provide support, empower and work closely with other team members to undertake effective marketing and engagement activity. You will lead on the PHRC’s digital presence, which includes the Centre’s website and social media channels. You will plan online marketing activity aimed at the wider Public Health workforce of Leeds, working with the frontline PHRC team to ensure this messaging is published on the most relevant platforms. You will work closely with our Digital Projects Officer (DPO) who’s principal workstreams include refreshing our website, supporting the implementation of a new Library Management System, developing an improved ordering system for the health leaflets and posters and creating and publishing short films and animations that contain key Public Health messages for workforce.
Initial priorities will be:   

To support the promotion of the service and Public Health Campaigns through engagement activity and social media; and contributing to the development of the service.

Job purpose

The contribution of the public health agenda to many professional roles across all sectors in Leeds is increasing at pace.   

Public Health Resource Centre (PHRC) plays a fundamental role in the provision of accessible and relevant support around the health and wellbeing agenda to all.  

This is a new and exciting role with many opportunities to help shape the future direction of the Leeds Public Health Resource Centre.  This role will include: 

  • Generating demand for the PHRC through effective and proactive marketing of the service
  • Leading on the production of a strong and vibrant digital presence
  • Supporting ongoing service improvement
  • Generating strong partnerships and networks within which to develop and cascade the work of the PHRC.
  • Developing opportunities for the PHRC to promote service e.g. training, resources and development
  • Expanding the PHRC service to meet the needs of the public health wider workforce of Leeds.

Responsibilities

  • Create a strong digital presence for the PHRC of Leeds utilising the latest social media platforms and channels
  • Develop strong partnerships across all sectors within Leeds and key partners regionally/nationally to promote the PHRC and share best practice
  • Attend, identify and develop events to promote and expand the role of the PHRC.
  • Working with the PHRC Manager, create a range of opportunities for members to feedback their views for continual service improvement.
  • Lead on the development of interactive and engaging open days to target specific sectors or professional groups.
  • Proactively promoting the PHRC service with a range of stakeholders including the NHS, local government and third sector
  • Monitoring social/digital media for mentions, questions or comments which relate to PHRC.
  • Using social media to support the PHRC to engage with the wider workforce of Leeds City Council in order to develop and grow the PHRC’s social media presence on platforms including but not restricted to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and You Tube
  • Supervising PHRC team members role within digital and social media
  • Working with public health colleagues to support local and national public health campaigns through the provision of targeted messages, dedicated resources and information sessions.
  • Identify and create content for use on social media.
  • Assisting with the production of engaging multimedia content
  • Work with communication colleagues within and external to LCC to develop opportunities to promote PHRC.
  • Develop and update the PHRC promotional material as required.
