Job description
About us
The Square Mile is not only the financial heart of the UK, it's home for a small population. As the second smallest local authority in the country, looking after just over 9,000 residents, the City of London Corporation is able to make a real difference for the communities that we serve.
Our Department of Community and Children Services is responsible for housing, education, social care and community services. Our remit also includes building new affordable homes and the maintenance and repairs programme for the Barbican Estate, Middlesex Street Estate, Golden Lane Estate and ten other estates situated in six different London boroughs. In addition, we provide public health, leisure and adult education for both residents and more than half a million people working in the City of London.
The role
As Business Support Manager, you will support this vital work by overseeing all business and administrative aspects of the Department. This a hugely diverse but absolutely critical role at the heart of our excellent service provision. You can expect to be involved in everything from ensuring we have the legal, financial, IT, HR, procurement and administrative support that we need, to looking after emergency planning and risk management. In addition, you will undertake the role and functions of the Statutory Complaints Manager for Adult and Children's Services, and manage the response to Freedom of Information and Subject Access requests, while also acting as audit liaison and ensuring proper records management.
About you
You're a business all-rounder with the skills to deliver projects, monitor budgets, investigate and handle complaints and manage staff. To succeed, you'll need outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to engage people at all levels. You'll also have an excellent grasp of IT, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite. Knowledge of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) would be helpful. You'll be capable of working independently but also as part of a team.
The benefits
Our all-round package of life-improving benefits covers everything from exceptional learning and development opportunities to practical support for your health and wellbeing. A focus on work-life balance is backed by parental leave and a career break scheme. Other benefits include annual leave of 28 days plus eight public holidays, membership of the generous Local Government Pension Scheme, an interest-free annual season ticket loan, free and discounted entry to various arts and culture venues, and discounted gym membership.
Located in the heart of London, with fantastic cultural, transport and historic links to greater London and beyond, the City of London Corporation is an exciting, ambitious, and truly unique place to work.
