The difference our new Cabling Infrastructure Systems Engineer will make
Babcock have been awarded the contract to run and modernised the UK MOD satellite network, Skynet. As part of this programme, we are looking for an experienced CIS Engineer with current expertise in the design and implementation of Campus Network Infrastructure. Experience in the design and security aspect of Military communication networks would also be valuable. This role will be responsible for:

• The design of CIS elements including network equipment rooms, optical fibre and copper cable selection, and OSP including civil works requirements.
• Ensuring new services and systems meet UK security and regulatory requirements (including the JSP604 4800 series publications).
• Managing obsolescence within the existing system to ensure the system remains supportable and compliant to security requirements.
• Managing the installation and configuration of new system elements, either by in house teams or third-party subcontractors.
• Testing, commissioning and quality assurance tasks for new equipment and services.
• Providing third line support to operations teams.

This role may require providing occasional deputization and assistance to the programmes SCIDA team.

Experience

• Knowledge of common UK CIS design standards including BSEN50173, 50174, 50310.
• Experience in the design and delivery of network infrastructure technologies.
• A strong understanding of the CDM 2015 regulations
• Have previous experience working at a telecoms or satellite communication company
• Knowledge of TEMPEST - Desirable
• Experience in the design of defence grade network infrastructure - Desirable
• Knowledge of datacentre design and operating principles - Desirable
• Knowledge of IP broadcast technologies such as Wi-fi, FSO, Microwave point to points - Desirable
• Able to create design documents in AutoCAD, Sketchup and Visio - Desirable

Qualifications

• Minimum of level 3 in an associated subject (electrical, electronics, telecoms)
• Certification from a recognised network infrastructure trade group at designer level (CNID, CNIDP, RCDD)
