Age Exchange is looking to recruit aCafé* Manager *to join our incredible team based at our Blackheath Community Hub.

Who you’ll be supporting & more about the role:

Our vision at Age Exchange is a world where older people’s past lives are re-discovered, valued and celebrated to help people be their true selves and live life to the full. We exist to transform lives through creative reminiscence by helping older people, including those with dementia, to build self-esteem, reducing isolation and improve wellbeing.
Age Exchange was founded in 1983 in the context of an emerging awareness of the value of reminiscence work, especially in care settings for older people. For more than 30 years we have developed new models of work offering participants a wide range of reminiscence-based creative activities and arts products.
You will need to possess the drive for the Café to grow and have the incredible skills to build and bring together community engagement.
Day to Day (list not exhaustive):

Café Management

  • Take full responsibility for the effective operation of the café.
  • Review sales performance regularly, identifying strategies for retaining and attracting new customers and building sales and profitability.
  • Contribute to the growth and effective delivery of private hires and events.

Food Preparation and Menu Planning

  • Prepare and cook food in advance including specials alongside regular menu.
  • Welcome customers, prepare and serve food and drink.
  • Review and update the menu.

Staffing and Customer Service

  • Manage the café team, ensuring they work to the expected standards at all times.
  • Train café team in preparing the full menu and in preparing drinks and coffees to the consistently high standard required.
  • Identify and monitor training needs and take an active role in developing team

Your values:
O*ur ideal Candidate:*

  • Experience of working in a busy café / food outlet environment.
  • A good understanding of current legislation relating to food provision and the ‘Scores on the Doors’ system. We currently have ‘5’ and we want to maintain that high level.
  • Experience of managing staff, producing workable rotas ensuring cover at the busiest times.
  • Experience of costing and budgeting and working within agreed financial constraints.
  • Experience/knowledge of working with volunteers – Age Exchange is renowned for its volunteer programme.
