Job description

About us

Crisis is the national charity for homeless people. We know that homelessness is not inevitable. We know that together we can end it.

Our shops generate valuable income to support our services, create opportunities for homeless people to learn new skills, and contribute to Crisis’ work in the community. They have a unique contemporary visual identity and are dynamic and creative places to work.

Title:  Shop Supervisor

Salary: £26,700 per annum

Location: Based in Shop from Crisis, Elephant & Castle

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 40, five days over a seven-day rota

About the role

We are recruiting two Shop Supervisors to join our busy and creative team in Elephant & Castle. You will join a team of five paid staff plus a dedicated volunteer group from all walks of life, raising money to fund Crisis’ work in ending homelessness.

Our Elephant & Castle shop is based in the vibrant Walworth Road, right next to East Street Market. We sell an amazing range of handpicked donated high street, quality and designer brands, plus a great selection of homeware, books and vinyl. We’d love you to join our diverse and creative team, and bring your own ideas, along with your experience of fashion, retail and current trends, to this role.

As a shop supervisor, you will spend much of your time managing the shop floor and supporting our volunteers to give great customer service. You will also support the sorting and pricing of stock and will be able to use your creativity in visual merchandising and getting involved in events.

You will have opportunities to build your own skills and career progression through training and development – many of our shop managers were promoted internally.

This is a permanent role. You will be primarily based in the Elephant & Castle shop, but you will be required to travel to other shops, predominantly within London Zones 1 & 2, on a short term basis.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have retail experience at a supervisory level alongside a genuine interest in charity retail. You will be positive, open to learning new skills, and committed to Crisis’s values and mission to end homelessness.

We believe diversity is a strength, and our aim is to make sure that Crisis truly reflects the communities we serve. We are actively working towards our organisation being a place where everyone can thrive and make their best contribution to our mission of ending homelessness for good. We know that the more perspectives, voices, and experiences we can bring to this work, the better. We particularly welcome applications from people who have lived experience of homelessness, and people from all marginalised groups, communities and backgrounds.

You may have experience in: shop supervisor, store supervisor, sales assistant, team leader, sales assistant, retail assistant, shop assistant, customer service, charity shop, charity retail.

Working at Crisis

As a member of the team, you will have access to a wide range of employee benefits including:

· Interest free loans to purchase a train season ticket or a bike or for a deposit to secure a tenancy

· Mandatory pension scheme, with an employer contribution of 8.5%

· 28 days’ annual leave which increases with service to 31 days

Alongside our excellent staff benefits, we will support your ongoing development to build your skills, experience and career.

When you join us, you will have the opportunity to join our staff diversity networks, which aim to champion issues across the organisation, enable staff to be their authentic and best selves and contribute to making Crisis a truly diverse organisation.
