The HV Charging Power Electronics team is responsible for the delivery of Plug-In & Full Electric vehicles (PHEV’s & BEV’s) including hardware and ECU design as well as control strategies for modules such as DcDc converters and Off-Board/On-Board Chargers.

You will be part of the team design the next generation DCDCs and On-Board Charger up to 800V range. We will offer you the opportunity to design and develop exciting and innovative products to feel proud of.

The successful candidate will act as Charging Power Electronics Engineer and will be responsible for the delivery of the next generation DCDCs and On-Board Charger into multiple vehicle programmes, including future electrical architecture changes. The successful candidate will need extensive experience of automotive Power electronics, together with proven capabilities in design, validation and delivery. This is a high visibility role requiring the candidate to cascade and agree requirements with a wide range of stakeholders from around the business. You'll need strong knowledge of both HW and SW aspects of Inverter design and development, managing Tier 1 suppliers to deliver to the highest quality.

Good interpersonal skills, time management and planning are essential in this role.

The successful candidate will report to the xHEV Group Lead and will support all programme delivery processes, operating as a Developer in a Scrum Team (Agile).

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Component ownership for Power Electronics supporting cost events, including Design Change requests, RFQs and RFIs

  • Manage a Tier one supplier to deliver hardware and software that can be integrated into our future vehicle programmes.

  • Manage, cascade and agree requirements with stakeholders and the Tier 1 supplier.

  • Manage and support all Quality workstreams including DFMEAs, PPIRs, PSWs.

  • Coordinate and control component releases to support vehicle programme builds.

  • Development of associated Test cases: DVM’s, DVP’s, PV testing

  • Accountable for timing plans on completion of design reviews, development milestones and validation test coverage

  • Issue resolution of hardware & software interaction issues using industry standard tools such as 8D and Ishikawas

  • Responsible for identifying project relevant commodity requirements out of vehicle system requirements (power supply system, vehicle functional safety system, electrical architecture system, powertrain system, HV systems & Charging systems)

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Degree level qualification in electrical/electronic engineering

  • Understanding of AC/DC, DC/DC topologies and ability to assess correct solutions.

  • Able to understand the design implication of developing High Voltage Systems

  • Root cause analyses techniques (e.g. Six Sigma, 5 Whys, Fishbone, 8D etc)

  • Confident, highly motivated, capable of prioritising workload and motivating others

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong influencing and engagement skills

  • Track record as an effective team player with strong interpersonal skills

 

Desirable:

  • An Agile mindset and experience of working as part of an Agile squad, applied to Power Electronics hardware component development & delivery

  • Experience of managing tier 1 suppliers Previous Experience designing and delivering electronics hardware design and component testing in an automotive / aerospace industry

  • Experience developing electronics for Power Electronics working voltages up to 800V and complex topologies.

  • Understanding of Power electronics and EV charging systems

  • Experience of Failure Mode Analysis techniques

  • Awareness and experience in design for EMI/EMC compliance.

  • Knowledge on gathering and analysing all requirements systematically to a qualitative system engineering process, structure and standard.

  • Knowledge on communication protocol implementation - CAN, CANFD, FlexRay

  • Understanding of tools like Inca, vector Canoe / Canalyser and different Measurement tools
