We are seeking an experienced nurse to join our team on Grand Union Ward, who provide specialist Haematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplant services for children and young people. We are looking for a nurse with minimum 1 year acute ward experience, with IV and oral medication competencies as desirable skills, to support our established team for 2-6 months.
Grand Union ward is a 13 bed paediatric unit, which is internationally recognised as a centre of excellence, caring for children and young people who require specialist haematology, oncology and stem cell transplant services.
You will have the opportunity to care for children and young people of all ages with a wide range of haematology conditions such as Sickle Cell Disease, Beta Thalassemia, Diamond Blackfan Anaemia and Bone Marrow Failure syndromes. Grand union ward is also a paediatric oncology shared care centre which offers you exposure to a wide range of oncological conditions.
You will be part of a highly skilled nursing team who work collaboratively with our Bone Marrow Transplant Coordinators and Clinical nurse specialists as well as engagement with a wide range of clinical specialities including psychologists, physiotherapists and dieticians.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Duties
To take charge of the clinical needs of a group of defined patients, on occasion prioritising workload according to changing clinical need.
Completing regular observations on patients and escalating when there are concerns.
Basic nursing cares such as helping to wash patients and changing nappies.
Close monitoring of patient input and output, using the online medical records system to document overall fluid balance and escalating when there are concerns.
To actively promote the safeguarding of children and young people.
Administering medications, some of which are bone marrow transplant specific, via multiple routes such as intravenous, oral, using NGT/Pegs and nebulisers.
Accurate documentation using the online medical records system, which is timely and up-to-date.
About us
In 2018, Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Imperial College London stated their intent to collaborate on the development of an integrated care system for paediatric services spanning West London.
West London Childrens Healthcare will unite paediatric services from across West London together into hubs that link closely together to support clinical care provision, research, education and training. The hubs will be networked with referral hospitals and primary care networks to optimise local care wherever possible for children whatever complex healthcare needs they have and to facilitate a population health approach
In November 2018, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT), Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust (C&W) and Imperial College London (ICL) set out, as part of Healthier Hearts and Lungs, their joint commitment to develop an integrated childrens hospital network for north- west London and a new academic centre for child health. Following the transition period full integration, with a single governance structure will take place on the 1st April 2022.

If not already acquired, it will be an expectation that these competencies will be completed, alongside the education team, whilst in post.
