About the Role
RIBA are seeking an experienced efficient Capital Project Manager to join the House of Architecture Programme team and to lead the renovation of our heritage building at 66 Portland Place, London.
Reporting into the wider Programme, this role would be supporting RIBA’s focus on making their HQ building at 66 Portland Place more accessible, useful, sustainable and welcoming. The 1934 landmark building has grade II listed status and comprises of staff offices, a library, bookshop, exhibition space, cafeteria, learning centre and a range of event spaces.
This role offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of a major project, ensuring the successful delivery of RIBA’s vision through effective management and coordination.
Reporting to the Programme Manager, you will serve as the primary contact between RIBA and the external design team for the 66 Portland Place project, by facilitating the flow of information, and project managing the building works, including the design process and works on site.
You will represent RIBA in dealings with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders, ensuring client-side interests are well-represented. Acting as the main point of contact for internal and external teams, you will provide clear updates and translate technical details into actionable insights.
You will also be responsible for reporting progress, budget and risk to ensure dependencies with other programme activities are managed.
What are we looking for?
- Significant experience in architecture, engineering, historic preservation, construction management, or a related field.
- Proven experience managing renovation/capital projects for historical or heritage buildings, with a strong understanding of historical preservation principles and regulations.
- Experience managing capital projects with ambitious sustainability outcomes would be an advantage.
- Experience acting as or behalf of the client would be an advantage
- Excellent project management skills, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools for scheduling, budgeting, and document management.
- Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and techniques relevant to heritage building renovation.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders and navigate complex regulatory requirements.
- Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work while preserving historical integrity.
