The Role:
In December 2021, M&G Investments became a founding signatory of the Net Zero Asset Managers Initiative (NZAMi). M&G Investments has committed to achieve net zero GHG emissions across its entire investment portfolio by 2050 and to set interim targets to increase the Assets under Management (AuM) that are to be managed consistent with net zero.
This role sits within M&G Investments' Stewardship & Sustainability team reporting to the Head of Climate Investment. The Climate Analyst will work closely with the Head of Climate Investment to develop and implement the firm's climate strategy to deliver upon our net zero commitment. They will be responsible for developing and owning key elements of M&G Investments' climate strategy.
Key Responsibilities for this role:
  • Strategy development - Supporting the development and implementation of M&G Investments' climate transition plan across both public and private asset classes.
  • Target setting and metrics- Support the development and implementation of company and fund level climate objectives including but not limited to decarbonisation, climate solutions and transition finance objectives. Support the development and implementation of metrics, tools and research frameworks for assessing climate risk, opportunity across different asset classes and sectors.
  • Company research - Undertake company level analysis of transition plans to support the identification of issuers that are well positioned for the energy transition.
  • Climate risk processes and assessments - Develop and coordinate M&G Investments' process for managing its exposure to climate risk across climate sensitive sectors like coal and oil & gas. Support refinement of our climate investment policies and governance. Act as point person for assessment of issuers that are exposed to climate risk.
  • Transition plan assessment - Undertake research and analysis of issuer transition plans.
  • Stewardship - Work closely with the stewardship team to engage companies to seek the enhancement of their targets and climate transition plans.
  • Reporting - Support the development of group level climate reporting and other client focused reporting on M&G Investments' climate strategy and activities.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and take personal accountability to maintain and enhance controls you are responsible for to support improvement of the overall control environment, customers outcomes and a reduction in M&G's operational risk.

Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
This role is ideally suited to someone who can demonstrate:
  • Strong understanding of climate science and scenarios.
  • Strong understanding of company transition planning frameworks and science-based target setting methodologies
  • Proven ability developing a complex workplan.
  • Proven ability to advance projects while working with multiple stakeholders with different need and concerns.
  • Ability to research unfamiliar and technical topics and translate findings into investment recommendations, policies and positions in the context of insurance investments.
  • Comfort in working with and presenting to stakeholders across different functions and knowledge bases.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise and deliver work in a flexible manner.
  • Build good relationships internally and externally.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Effective analytical skills
  • Good planning and organisational skills
  • Effective problem-solving skills.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • IMC, CFA or ESG qualification desirable
