Job description

How you'll make a difference

You will make a difference by developing and managing partnership and delivery projects as part of the Council’s response to the Climate and Nature Emergency.

The Council and our partners are working together to scale up and accelerate new programmes and projects to deliver nature recovery, improve adaption and resilience to the changing climate, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. For the initial 2 years, you will be responsible for an exciting new partnership programme focussed on nature recovery across the Lower Severn Vales of South Gloucestershire. Join our team and play your part in this vital work.

What will you be doing?

  • In the role you will work with services across the council, partners, local communities and contractors, to develop, manage and deliver work priorities and projects of the councils Climate and Nature Emergency Action Plan.
  • You will be responsible for project development, management and delivery, including budget management, procurement, monitoring and reporting back to funders, as well as acting as the councils point of contact for projects.
  • Working closely with partners, you will be responsible for project monitoring and evaluation, including achieving and tracking project milestones, preparing project communications and ensuring that elected Members, officers, partners, and funders are briefed and kept updated on progress.
  • In the role you will be required to keep abreast of national and sub regional policy issues and changes, and represent the Council at Officer level.
  • You can expect to prepare reports for decisions and make presentations to Council, Committee, Officer, and external meetings and to share and present project learning and outputs through local, regional and national networks and forums.

What we need from you

  • It is essential that you hold a relevant professional environmental qualification or equivalent, and have relevant professional experience in nature recovery project development, management, delivery, and partnership working.
  • We require you to have a thorough knowledge, understanding and practical application and experience of ecology, nature recovery, climate resilience, and related legislation and policy. Knowledge and awareness of carbon management and renewable energy would also be beneficial.
  • You must have the ability to analyse, interpret and communicate complex data and technical information and recommend appropriate courses of action.
  • It is important that you have experience of planning and managing multidisciplinary projects and working collaboratively with project teams of internal and external stakeholders.
  • We require you to have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information to technical and non-technical audiences at all levels.
  • It is essential that you are able to organise and facilitate successful meetings and events, be well organised and self-motivated, with the ability to cope with competing demands, identify priorities, and work to targets and deadlines.
  • Whist a hybrid role, there will be a requirement to attend meetings in the project area, across the West of England and at council offices on a regular basis and as required.
