Job description
We are looking for a self-motivated compassionate, caring, enthusiastic and hard-working individual to help and support the clinical staff within the Clinical Imaging Department. Although based at the West Cornwall Community Diagnostic Centre at Penzance Hospital the post-holder will be required to travel to community sites and hospitals on an ad-hoc basis and therefore a driving licence is essential.
Previous experience working with patients or customers and basic clerical/keyboard skills and computer literacy are essential for the post. Previous experience as a carer would be desirable.
This is a permanent full-time post working 37.5 hours per week and commitment to out of hours and weekend work may be required. Applications from those looking for part time hours or job share will be considered.
The Clinical Imaging Assistant will be required to undertake a very wide range of duties under the direct supervision of the Clinical Imaging staff, and these will encompass clerical, patient care and the transportation of patients to all Imaging departments.
You will need to be an excellent communicator with good inter-personal skills, have a practical approach and mechanical aptitude. A good general education is necessary including being computer literate with good IT skills.

Promote a patient-focussed service in a caring environment and ensure collaborative working relationships with all other departments.
Under the direction of practitioners or Clinical Imaging Support Workers ensure a smooth workflow and effective communication.
Accompany Inpatients and Outpatients to and from examination rooms.
Liaise with wards to arrange appropriate patient preparation for examinations and safe transfer to the department. Assist team members with manual handling using appropriate and safe technique
Use communication skills to provide accurate and clear information regarding imaging procedures. Prepare the patient for imaging procedures.
Ensure the clinical environment is fully prepared for procedures including the selection of medical devices, cleanliness and immobilisation equipment. Ensure medical devices are ready for use.
Check and maintain the stock levels of consumables and linen in each room. Report the need for re orders.
Prepare and lay out trolleys in preparation for aseptic procedures e.g biopsy / drainage in line with departmental protocols.
Occasional transporting of biological hazards.
Support ultrasound staff to position patients for imaging procedures.
Acting as a chaperone & provide support to the practitioner during clinical procedures. Provide patient support throughout simple and complex imaging procedures..
Report any change in patient condition or any problem or hazard within the department to the Practitioner in charge.
Deliver post-procedural care, including, basic clinical observations and monitoring, under direction of a senior member of the team.
