We are looking to appoint enthusiastic doctors, with an interest and experience in medical education, to Teaching Fellowships to support undergraduate medical education at Walsall Manor Hospital.
The Walsall HealthcareNHS Trust invites applications for Clinical Teaching Fellows to join the Faculty of Undergraduate Medical Education in the Trust. The post is open for doctors who have full registration with the GMC and at least two years postgraduate experience and a comprehensive knowledge of the MbCHB course.
Successful applicants will be involved in 3rd, 4thand 5thyear medical student teaching and Physician Associate Teaching.
Full financial support is offered to successful candidates to undertake the Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education with the University of Birmingham.
Clinical Teaching Fellows will be attached to specific firms for 3rdyear medicine and surgery and tutor groups in the 4thand 5thyear, covering medicine, surgery, emergency medicine and intensive care. Clinical Teaching Fellows will be able to continue a clinical commitment in their potential chosen career specialty, which will be 20% of the role. We are looking to appoint Clinical Teaching Fellows into a range of medical and surgical specialties.

Job Summary
Walsall has a longstanding commitment to provide placements for University of Birmingham medical students and achieves excellent feedback as a placement hospital. Clinical Teaching Fellows will be part of the Undergraduate Academy Team and be actively involved in organising and delivering undergraduate medical education.
Post-holders will be encouraged to undertake a funded PG Cert in Education for Health Professionals at the University of Birmingham during the 12 month post. Nine sessions each week are allocated for teaching undergraduate medical education and one session allocated for clinical experience in a specialty area of choice.
The post provides a unique opportunity for doctors seeking to develop further before entering Higher Specialist Training or as an Out Of Programme Experience for those in training posts already. It is not suited to applicants who prefer a longer term or permanent employment contract. A minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience is needed for this post.

Medicine and Surgery

SPC and SPM (covering anaesthetics, ENT, T&O, urology, medicine)

Acutely Ill Patient
Currently 20 students each allocation
Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Currently 7 students each allocation
1. Organisation and delivery of teaching of clinical medical students (e.g. bedside teaching, small group teaching and simulation) ensuring this meets the learning objectives set by medical school.
2. Supporting the medical undergraduate teaching programme with course development, evaluation and co-ordination of the teaching programme, in conjunction with the Head of Academy.
3. To contribute to the organisation of student clinical examinations and assessments.
4. To support students in pastoral role and to signpost as escalate as necessary.
5. To liaise with staff in the medical school and Trust as appropriate, including clinical colleagues, undergraduate co-ordinators, Teaching Fellows in other Trusts and medical school education developers.
6. To undergo training in teaching methods as agreed with the Head of Academy (Postgraduate Certificate in Education for Health Professionals, unless already completed).
7. To be familiar with the curriculum and to be available to facilitate student’s self-directed learning.
8. To ensure that clinical practice is up to date and to undertake a programme of continued professional development with clinical commitments appropriate to the development of specialist clinical skills e.g. attendance at clinics, ward rounds etc. as appropriate).
9. To undertake quality improvement and/or research depending on the candidate’s interest.
10. To comply with all relevant Trust policies and procedure.
