Job description

At Arctic Shores, we’re on a mission to give every individual the opportunity to show their potential, and every employer the means to see it. All with our Talent Discovery Platform – UNA.

We’re fuelled by over 50 explorers, drawn from all corners of the world. What unites us all is a belief that human potential – in all its forms – is genuinely worth knowing, and worth celebrating. Wouldn’t you agree?

We’re growing, and are looking for someone analytical, statistics-loving and innovative to join our growing team of product professionals!

The Cognitive Scientist role sits within the Product team, is part of the Psychometrics 'Chapter' (made up of Applied Psychology, Cognitive Science and Psychometrics) and is an active member of the ASDA (Assessment, Scoring, Data and Analytics) squad.

As a Cognitive Scientist, you'll collaborate with Product & Engineering colleagues to support cross-functional product delivery squads, comprised of product owners, scientists, designers, developers, and testers. Together, you'll enhance existing and develop new, innovative psychometric assessment measures that meet customer needs.

You will be responsible for:

  • Contributing to the formulation and development of novel psychometric assessment products measuring constructs relevant to the workplace e.g. abstract reasoning, resilience, emotion perception.

  • Generating original insights about the scientific content of our existing assessment products.

  • Ensuring we maintain psychological construct measurement that is consistently credible and robust, as we innovate.

You will achieve this by:

  • Independently planning, designing and conducting robust psychological research studies.

  • Being a subject matter expert in Cognitive Science, Behavioural Neuroscience, and/or Psychological Science, evidenced by academic track record.

  • Applying statistical and data analytical techniques such as (but not limited to) factor analysis, multilevel modelling, item response theory.

Applying for the role

We won’t be asking for your CV for this role. Why? Because your potential can’t be packed into a side of A4. To get to know you – the real you – we’ll ask you to complete a few simple questions (to better understand your experience, expectations and motivations) and our unique task based assessment (to identify your natural strengths and preferences). This gives us a much better feel for how you’ll fit into the role, taking into account all the qualities that make you, you.

Our assessment doesn’t take long, and you’ll get instant feedback into your qualities once you’re done. You’ll receive feedback regardless of whether you proceed with your application – a little thank you from us, for taking the time to apply. Use it to learn a little more about yourself, and to inform the next steps in your career.

Closing date for applications (this includes submitting your answers to our questions and completing the assessment) is midday on Monday 15th April.

We'll be holding 1st stage video interviews w/c 22nd April. Final interviews (this stage will include a presentation that we would like candidates to prepare prior and deliver within the interview) will be held in person at our London office on the 8th or 9th May.

Here's what you’ll get at Arctic Shores

  • Competitive salary ranging from £30,000 to £45,000 depending on experience

  • 28 days holiday per year, plus public holidays. You'll also get an additional day for every year's service at Arctic Shores, up to four years

  • Private medical and mental health cover, as well as 2 mental wellbeing days each year

  • Aviva pension scheme, offering 3% employer and 5% employee contributions (calculated on full salary)

  • Hybrid working and Core working hours, giving you flexibility to shape work around your life

  • Enhanced Parental Leave

  • Fertility support

  • Company sick pay

  • Training budget

  • Share Options scheme

  • Cycle2Work scheme

  • Length of service awards

  • Own Days – one day every month dedicated to your professional development. Whether you’re setting time aside for a personal project, some research, a course… it’s entirely up to you

  • Central offices within easy commuting distance

  • The chance to work in a supportive team with a worthwhile mission

  • An employer with heart in the right place and a welcoming work culture

  • A role in shaping the growth of a product that’s changing how hiring gets done, all over the world

  • A voice in your team where you can be heard and have a direct influence on how we continue to innovate and deliver market leading assessment and selection products

Our values make us who we are

Make a difference: We can’t change everything. But we can contribute to a world of work that’s truly fair and inclusive, and do our bit to build a better society.

Grow together: We invest in our ability, learn from our setbacks, and always celebrate the people behind our progress. By growing together, we go further.

Explore, always: Changing the way the world sees potential takes curiosity, drive, and bravery. With that explorer’s spirit, we break new ground.

How to use GenAI in the application stage

We value authenticity and want to understand who you are, your experiences, and what you bring to the table. We therefore welcome the use of GenAI to polish your narrative, brainstorm ideas and structure your thoughts, but ensure the final application reflects your personal journey and skills.

For example

  • Ask GenAI to provide examples of how to describe key qualities, then personalise these examples with your own stories.

  • If the form asks you a question about a time when you overcame a difficult problem, create a shortlist of problems you have overcome with relevant context, then ask ChatGPT to help you bring the story to life more articulately.

  • Leverage GenAI for grammar and spelling checks to polish your application.

Remember, the goal of using GenAI in your job application is to augment your natural abilities and showcase your best self. It's not about creating a persona that isn't you.

Equal Opportunities

At Arctic Shores, we’re all about opportunity. That’s why we welcome applications from all walks of life, regardless of background, gender identification, race, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, neurotype, age, size, style, or marital status.

Because we’re committed to giving everyone their fair shot, we’re happy to accommodate any reasonable adjustments you may need. Just let us know.
