About the Department:
SOAS Library attracts scholars from around the world and has holdings of 1.3 million volumes and an excellent selection of online resources to support the study of Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The Reader Services Team plays a vital role in welcoming our users and in managing access to the Library’s collections and spaces. Special Collections is responsible for the management of the Library’s archive, manuscript, and rare book holdings. This includes acquiring, cataloguing, and preserving the collections. The Special Collections team provides access to the collections through the reading room and an enquiry service. Special Collections works closely with other teams in SOAS Library as well as colleagues across SOAS.
About the Role
The post holder will work flexibly to lead a team to deliver an audit and space management project focussed on Special Collections. The post holder and Collection Audit Assistants will capture data on collection items across the archive, manuscript, rare books and object collections to support their long-term collection management. The post holder will ensure that the team delivers improved documentation of the storage of our collections and, based on these findings, proposes and implements more efficient and effective storage solutions.
The post holder will be responsible for planning and prioritising their work and the work activities of the team ensuring that targets and deadlines are met.
