The Roof Gardens were originally created in the Art Deco period and opened in 1933. In the late 60’s the building was taken over by fashion powerhouse Biba and was the pulse of Swinging London. 100ft high above Kensington High Street, set across 3 floors with over an acre of gardens, The Roof Gardens will be a next generation members club that is future-facing, committed to innovation and community, to discovery and to delight. The club will open in Spring/Summer 2024 as a world-leading members’ club affording its community beautiful gardens, bars, restaurants and events spaces alongside a visionary cultural and music programme.

The Role

We are looking for a Commis Chef to join us at The Roof Gardens. As a key member of our kitchen team, you will be busy supporting the operation to ensure a truly brilliant experience for our members when they dine with us.

You’ll need to be quick-acting, quick-thinking, responsive, and calm under pressure as you work in a busy team to execute preparation, cooking and delivery of dishes to the very highest standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Food Preparation: Control and direct the food preparation process. Prepare ingredients, maintain kitchen cleanliness, hygiene, and smooth operation.
• Team Player: Assist with tasks delegated by senior team members and aid in deliveries, stocktaking, and ordering as directed.
• Skill Development: Observe, learn, and practice culinary skills. Improve food preparation methods based on feedback.
• Compliance and Safety: Ensure the kitchen meets all regulations regarding sanitary and food safety guidelines, uphold expected food hygiene practices in line with statutory and company standards.

Skills & Requirements

• NVQ Level 3 or Culinary Arts Degree
• Level 2 Food Safety and Health & Safety Award
• Minimum one year relevant experience
• Awareness of manual handling and COSHH regulations
• Experience with kitchen equipment
• Competent in spoken and written English
• Excellent knowledge across all kitchen sections
• Ability to produce high-quality food
• Strong oral communication and team management skills
• Attention to detail and numeracy
• Enthusiastic about personal and team development
• Adaptability and openness to new ideas
• Ability to work independently and deliver quality results
• Positive and approachable demeanour with strong team player qualities
