Job description

Job Introduction

We are looking to appoint a part time, Communication Support Worker - Autism Inclusion Team - Trainer (0.4 FTE) as from 08.04.24.  Applicants will need to have experience of working with autistic children and have a comprehensive knowledge of autism friendly approaches.  The role entails working independently as a trainer in various different settings around the County, and with Teacher and CSW colleagues working in Mainstream settings from Nursery to Post 16, advising/training staff and parents. Occasional cover work with pupils within settings maybe required

This post is has arisen due to the increased requests for awareness training in schools and out in the wider community, including health care providers, public services, activity centres, charity groups etc.

We would also like to be able to broaden AIT’s social media platform.

A current driving licence is essential.

Main Responsibility

  • To provide advice / training regarding Autism strategies and reasonable adjustments and their effective implementation in school, home and other settings.
  • To design and develop bespoke packages to respond to specific business needs in relation to the promotion and understanding of Autism
  • To work closely with agencies / other professionals to plan support and deliver training in order to promote inclusion and understanding of Autism
  • To teach the relevant skills required (which may include individual teaching, support teaching, advisory, preparation of learning materials) ensuring maximum curricular access. 
  • Through training, ensure the social and emotional needs of the autistic child / young person are appropriately managed by supporting pupils, schools / settings and parents / carers.
  • To promote the offer of training and inclusion of autistic children / young people by supporting extra-curricular activities and / or delivery of training (e.g.  parents’ groups)
  • To promote and build capacity of Autism Inclusion by delivering training to diverse settings and audiences

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have

  • Certificate from accredited Autism Awareness training and educated to level 3 equivalent
  • Educated to GCSE level C grade or equivalent in Maths and English
  • Experience in supporting a child or young person with Autism in either a school /community based setting
  • An up to date and advanced knowledge of autism and the three key areas of difference
  • Specialist knowledge of Autism skills and strategies used in an education setting
  • Experience in delivering training to various stakeholders
  • Experience and knowledge of managing social media platforms
  • Knowledge of essential SEND legislation
  • Effective organisational skills with the ability to plan and meets deadlines
  • Effective ICT skills
