THE TEAM
The Construction team assist suppliers and purchasers pre-empt, manage, avoid, and resolve contentious legal issues. Their specialist team is well versed in mediation, adjudication, arbitration, and litigation procedures, delivering solutions across the built environment, particularly in commercial, mixed-use, and residential development, hotels, retail and leisure, energy, and infrastructure. Clients include developers, contractors, subcontractors, insurers, lenders, consultants, and advisers.
THE ROLE
This position presents a fantastic chance for an experienced solicitor to become part of the expanding construction practice group within the firm. The primary emphasis of the role will be on Contentious Construction matters, encompassing disputes referred to adjudication and those within the High Court.
The responsibilities will be predominantly centred on construction-related tasks in the UK, encompassing both standard form and custom agreements. The broader team serves a growing clientele in engineering and infrastructure, representing developers, contractors, and sub-contractors. Collaborative efforts with the Development and Real Estate Finance teams are integral, particularly in the context of commercial and residential development projects.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Managing contentious issues and providing advisory support for disputes, covering alternative dispute resolution (ADR), expert determinations, adjudications (including enforcement proceedings in the TCC). Addressing a diverse range of matters such as final account and delay claims, quality of build disputes, construction insolvency, bond claims, ACM cladding, professional indemnity, and other insurance-related claims.
- Offering technical legal and commercial guidance to clients engaged in construction disputes. Collaborating with Partners and fellow Fee earners to assess risks and devise innovative solutions.
- Efficiently overseeing project management of cases from initiation to conclusion, while effectively delegating responsibilities to junior team members. Providing guidance and fostering their professional growth.
- Cultivating and managing robust client relationships, gaining insight into their requirements to consistently deliver high-quality legal services.
- Instructing and coordinating with Counsel and other experts when necessary.
- Conducting and leading meetings with clients, Counsel, and opposing parties.
- Staying current with developments in Contentious Construction law, sharing knowledge, insights, and best practices within the team and the broader firm.
IDEALLY YOU WILL:
- Be a qualified solicitor with 6+ years post-qualification experience;
- Proven experience working on relevant contentious and non-Contentious Construction work at a senior level;
- Detailed knowledge of adjudication practice and procedures;
- Willingness to actively participate in business development and profile-raising activities; and
- The ability to supervise, mentor and develop more junior members of the team.
