Position: Controls Engineer
Salary: £50,000 - £55,000
Location: Cambridge
Proactive are currently in search of an experienced Controls Engineer to start work immediately for a client of ours in Cambridge. This is an exciting opportunity working for a world leading manufacturing company, offing ample opportunity for career progression and development.
The main focus of this role will be to provide controls design assistance to the in house Engineering team.
Based in the Cambridge development centre and reporting to the Controls Team Leader, the applicant
would be involved in the whole lifecycle of product development from concept and prototype stages,
through to production and support.
Principal Responsibilities
Contribute to the design and development of specifications for electrical control systems
To communicate with the Project Manager and Project Team members regarding identifying design requirements: function, reliability, cost, serviceability, and ensure the design integrates correctly
To develop, design, upgrade and troubleshoot PLC programs, electrical control hardware and HMI
Preparing and maintaining design documentation
capable of fault finding and troubleshooting electrical control systems
Produce BOMs specifying bought out components and their source of supply
Obtaining cost effective quotations from suppliers for electrical control systems components
Provide technical support throughout the build process, to the Manufacturing Team, Procurement and the Design Team, providing assistance with test and build procedures, and the transfer of the product to manufacturing and the customer
Defining cost effective manufacturing and assembly techniques
Identify technical risks and devising and implementing mitigation plans
To Ensure new product designs meet all the necessary requirements and company standards
Responsible for ensuring that new product developments of electrical control systems are delivered on time and to quality
Supporting product integration and acceptance testing
Technical support to client
Knowledge and Experience
Relevant qualification (HNC or above) in Electrical and/or Control Engineering or equivalent experience
Controls Engineer with more than five years product development and manufacture experience,
preferably in a multidisciplinary manufacturing environment
Proven knowledge of PLC electrical control and multi-axis motion control systems.
Experience in using Eplan and/or E3.Series, as well as Beckhoff TwinCAT, is desirable
Previous experience gained within a Fast Moving Consumer Goods manufacture or System Integrator setting in the design and commissioning of electrical control systems
Up-to-date knowledge of national and international electrical and safety regulations will be advantageous
