We are looking for a confident communicator to act as the council’s specialist for corporate health & safety and risk management.
You will be responsible for providing guidance to our Safety & Wellbeing Manager, Corporate Directors and our Members on relevant changes in legislation relating to health & safety and insurance in the public sector and their impact on the Council, along with:
- Supporting the administration of the accident/ incident and insurance claims recording systems (Environmental Health database) and providing relevant information to departments to aid risk management decisions.
- Supporting and advising on the various internal health and Safety committees and groups.
- Supporting in the development and implementation of internal policies, guidance and procedures concerning health & safety and insurance.
- Undertaking a range of interventions including monitoring, investigations, training, inspections and audits, working to improve the corporate health, safety and wellbeing performance and culture.
In order for you to be competent in this role it is essential that you have experience in working in a health & safety and risk management environment, along with having:
- A health & safety diploma (or equivalent)
- Investigation skills to implement health and Safety systems, oversee accident investigations and identify training needs.
- Experience in delivering training on general health & safety and specific areas including risk assessments.
- Experience of providing competent advice, guidance, and support to officers and managers on all operational health, safety and wellbeing issues.
- Knowledge of Legislation relating to insurance and health & safety.
- Ability to persuade and influence in challenging circumstances.
- Having the ability to display sensitivity, tact and diplomacy in all situations.
