Are you an experienced professional with a background in debt recovery within a legal firm or have had exposure of preparing aged debt cases to be taken to legal proceedings? Macildowie, a leading recruitment agency, is seeking candidates for the role of Credit Controller/Litigation Officer on behalf of our confidential client. This exciting opportunity offers the chance to work within a dynamic team in the legal sector.
Job Purpose: The successful candidate will work closely with the Litigation Controller and report jointly to the Credit Manager. Based at our client's Finance Head Office in North Leicester, the role involves managing a portfolio of referred delinquent accounts, pursuing recovery through the legal process to enforcement stage, and monitoring repayment arrangements for the business and associated companies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessing referrals and determining if debt recovery efforts have been exhausted
- Evaluating the viability of issuing legal proceedings considering debt value versus anticipated costs
- Tracing absconded debtors and identifying freehold assets through HM Land registry searches
- Drafting legal documents such as Particulars of Claim and lodging claims via the CCBC/Proclaim system
- Attending court and mediation hearings, negotiating settlements, and enforcing Judgement Orders
- Monitoring and recording progress of all actions, providing monthly reports to the Litigation Officer and Credit Manager
- Providing general support to the credit control department during busy periods
Requirements:Essential:
- An understanding of the full legal recovery process (training will be provided)
- Working knowledge of legal instruments and Court documentation
- Excellent time management skills and ability to meet specific deadlines
- Strong negotiation and query resolution abilities
- Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word & Excel
- Well-organised, self-motivated, and able to prioritise workloads
- Team player with a target-driven mindset
- Flexible with a willingness to take on additional workloads
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Enthusiastic outlook when under pressure
- Willingness to travel occasionally with overnight stays (costs reimbursed)
Desirable:
- Minimum 1 year of legal recoveries experience within a solicitor's practice or large in-house litigation department
