The BFI is recruiting for a Curator, Archive Platforms.

About the role

The BFI is looking for a Curator, Archive Platforms to join its Curatorial team on a fixed term basis until September 2025.

The Curator, Archive Platforms will focus on overseeing the programme planning and delivery of BFI National Archive content on BFI and other platforms, including BFI Player, BFI Replay, Mediatheque and YouTube, as well as platform outcomes of major projects such as Our Screen Heritage. 

Key responsibilities

  • Develop programmes and collections of archival content on BFI platforms, including BFI Replay, BFI Player, Mediatheques and YouTube, as well as future platforms.
  • With support from the Assistant Curator (Archive Platforms) and in consultation with the Senior Curator, develop and oversee delivery of curatorial plan(s) for BFI platforms, with particular attention to showcasing work made by and representing the greatest diversity of UK communities – including works made by filmmakers from diverse ethnic backgrounds, LGBT+ filmmakers, disabled filmmakers and women filmmakers.
  • Work with curators and the Assistant Curator to research, curate and deliver collections, packages and other features for BFI platforms, particularly as programmed outputs of curatorial programmes.
  • Create high quality, accessible and compelling written contextual material, for diverse audiences, for works and collections on BFI platforms

The BFI seeks candidates with: 

  • A background of working for a cultural organisation in a curatorial, programming or allied role.
  • Deep knowledge of and passionate enthusiasm for a breadth of contemporary and historic UK film and television, including both fiction and non-fiction work, with experience of communicating that knowledge and enthusiasm to a general audience.
  • Good understanding of 20th and 21st century social and cultural history in Britain.
  • Excellent writing and research skills, with significant experience of writing for a general audience on historical British film and/or television in print or online, ideally with particular experience of short-form writing.
