Job description

British Heart Foundation (BHF) has an ambitious strategy, aiming to substantially grow its revenue to invest over £1bn in research by 2030, in its fight for a world free from the fear of heart and circulatory disease.
The Technology directorate is an integral internal partner for BHF to help deliver our strategy and, as our Data Engineer, you’ll support the successful delivery of a scalable data intelligence platform in Azure. This will provide the services and tools to extract deeper insights from big and complex data using predictive analytics and AI, with a particular focus on Health Intelligence and Analysis. This in turn will enable the uncovering of actionable insights previously hidden in data.
You’ll support the roll out of this platform and ensure these insights are used to guide our mission-focused decision making and strategic planning, helping BHF to deliver against its core mission-led strategic objectives.
The platform will be designed to be iterative and adaptive, allowing exploration of new data sources, models, and algorithms over time, ensuring that BHF stays current and leverages the latest advancements in data intelligence.
You’ll work closely with our Health Insights Team, the Technology Operational Teams and our 3rd party delivery partner to ensure successful implementation and ongoing support of the new platform which we are calling The Data Science Environment.

Working requirements
Please note this is a 20 month fixed term contract.
This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our London office.
At the BHF we believe in the power of being together, so our colleagues on blended contracts can expect to spend some time in their office, at least one day each week, on average. The use of our office spaces is driven in part by your role and the activities you need to do. This may vary from time to time, so you will need to work in a flexible way to unlock your best work for our cause.
Need more help balancing your work and home life? Talk to us about what flexibility is available at the application or interview stage.

About you
A Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer, you’ll have previous SQL knowledge and experience as well as knowledge and experience of using Python, Java, or Scala.
With previous experience working in a technical support and delivery function, you’ll have experience of supporting the delivery of multiple complex projects simultaneously, as well as working within a technical delivery team to support non-technical users.
You’ll have proven experience balancing multiple priorities, as well as experience working with Databricks and the Databricks Unity Catalog.
To be successful in this role you’ll also have the following skills and experience:
  • Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills, able to deliver results to deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills able to liaise effectively at all levels and with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to build positive and proactive relationships with peers and colleagues
  • A technical and logical approach to problems presented, with a determination to resolve these
  • An enthusiastic and “can-do” positive attitude
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to support a busy and fast changing environment
  • Pro-active and self-motivated
