The University is seeking to appoint a Data Protection Governance Officer to lead on the assessment of systems, processes, activities and contractual arrangements relating to existing and proposed processing of personal data by the University and third parties to ensure institutional compliance and data subject’s rights. The successful applicant will have a working knowledge of UK Data Protection legislation, contractual law and the Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) framework, be educated to degree level or equivalent and may have a legal background.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a Data Protection and legal services team as part of the University Secretary’s Office, which provides corporate governance, policy, regulatory and legal advice. This role aimed at pro-actively engaging with Departments and information asset owners across the University to ensure Privacy Notices, Data Protection Impact Assessments and third-party processing agreements exist where required. You will deliver training to colleagues of different levels of knowledge and seniority, as well as provide guidance and advice on a regular basis. You will possess exceptional communication skills, both written and oral, and will be able to communicate complex matters simply and concisely to staff at different levels across the University, as well as third parties.
