Job description

At Swindon Borough Council, we want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.

Swindon is part of the national Special Educational Needs Disability & Alternative Provision Change Programme, working with the Department for Education and external delivery partners to test 19 reforms following the green paper consultation in 2021. This is an exciting opportunity to support the testing of proposed reforms that will bring about a positive change for all in the SEND sector.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone to join our busy and fast-paced team to support our work in procuring and monitoring services for children.

Our team is expanding and so it is an excellent time to join us to be part of the change.

Your next role

We recognise that most potential applicants may not have the specialist knowledge around SEND, therefore a desire to learn is essential, we will ensure that the successful applicants are provided with the relevant training to undertake the post to the required standard.

If you believe you have the skills, experience and enthusiasm to join, help shape this developing team, make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable children and young people and save the Council money through the effective, efficient and compliant procurement of services, then we want to hear from you.

We do however expect an excellent grounding in all aspects of providing administrative support to a team.

Your responsibilities

  • Managing administrative and business processes that support the effective functioning of the SEND Service including managing enquiries, correspondence and information received through a range of communication routes.
  • Working with colleagues and a range of stakeholders to ensure processes and customer service protocols work well and are used effectively, consistently across the service and that customer feedback is collated and informs service development.
  • Supporting both communication and quality audits of systems for compliance, consistency and accuracy making sure that they meet appropriate standards of clarity, branding and security of personal and sensitive information.
  • Ensuring work undertaken meets the required standards and performance criteria for the safeguarding and wellbeing of children and young people and that all work undertaken enables equal opportunities regardless of ethnicity, disability and other protected characteristics.

We can offer you

  • A supportive team and regular supervision with your line manager
  • A chance to learn about the roles of many professionals supporting children and interact with them on a daily basis
  • To feel part of a team that are making a daily difference to the lives of children
  • A receptive and positive learning culture that wants your ideas and contributions to improving and developing service delivery

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).

Your next package

Please see our Rewards and Benefits offer for more details.

As an employee, you will receive a diverse and exciting environment in which to work, encouraging creativity and innovation whilst recognising the need to support ongoing personal development and a flexible work life balance.

For Swindon to thrive in the future, we need to lay the foundations now. It’s why our regeneration and transformation programmes are already underway. So, you’ll be joining us at an exciting time on our journey. We’ll look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions and drive real, positive change. With your contributions, we’ll achieve our vision of a prosperous, re-vitalised Swindon together. And you’ll be proud to say it was made better with you.

Please see our Vision and Values page for more details.
