Job Overview:
Undertake the following, providing you are trained, competent and indemnified:
· Obtain a detailed dental history from patients and evaluate their medical history
· Carry out a clinical examination within your competence
· Complete periodontal examination and charting and use indices to screen and monitor periodontal disease
· Diagnose and treatment plan within your competence
· Prescribe radiographs
· Take, process and interpret various film views used in general dental practice
· Plan the delivery of care for patients
· Give appropriate patient advice
· Provide preventive oral care to patients and liaise with dentists over the treatment of caries, periodontal disease and tooth wear
· Undertake supragingival and subgingival scaling and root surface debridement using manual and powered instruments
· Use appropriate anti-microbial therapy to manage plaque-related diseases
· Adjust restored surfaces in relation to periodontal treatment
· Apply topical treatments and fissure sealants
· Give patients advice on how to stop smoking
· Take intra and extra-oral photographs
· Give infiltration and inferior dental block analgesia
· Place temporary dressings and re-cement crowns with temporary cement
· Place rubber dam
· Take impressions
· Care of implants and treatment of peri-implant tissues
· Carry out direct restorations on primary and secondary teeth
· Carry out pulpotomies on primary teeth
· Extract primary teeth
· Identify anatomical features, recognise abnormalities and interpret common pathology
· Carry out oral cancer screening
· If necessary, refer patients to other healthcare professionals
· Keep full, accurate and contemporaneous patient records
· If working on a prescription, vary the detail but not the direction of the prescription according to patient needs. For example, the number of surfaces to be restored or the material to be used.
GDC Scope of Practice
Maintain the required professional registration, indemnity and insurance. Ensuring the appointed compliance manager is provided with copies to obtain as evidence.
- Regularly review practice policies and procedures and ensure these are followed to the best of your ability, where there may be concerns, raise this with your practice manager/principal.
- Manage own programme of continuing professional development to maintain and improve own professional knowledge and competence and to meet the GDC requirements and be prepared to provide training requirements in line with your regulatory bodies requirements also (CQC/HIW/HIS)
- Treat patients with empathy and understanding and be professional at all times.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with all team members to provide high standards of care and service to the patients in line with the practice policies and procedures.
- Conduct referrals to other professionals where the patient's needs cannot be met by your current scope of practice and maintain contemporaneous records of this.
- Maintain good lines of communication with the practice team in patients' best interests.
- Always obtain valid consent from patients before starting treatment, where this is not possible, ensure the appropriate protocols are followed.
- Keep up to date with and practise in line with current regulations, including the guidance from the College of General Dentistry and NICE.
- Maintain good oral health among your patients and give appropriate advice.

Salary: £40,000.00-£65,000.00 per year
