Colfe’s School is looking for an experienced, reliable, hard-working and self-motivated Deputy Head Groundsperson to join our in-house Grounds Team. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a busy and dynamic School; the estate comprises of three locations, all within close proximity, and contains various sports pitches, fields and garden/landscaped areas totalling nearly 40 acres.
The job is a full-time position; 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday) throughout the year with core working hours being 08.00–17.00 Monday–Thursday and 08.00–16.00 on Fridays with a one hour unpaid lunch break. Regular overtime is required at weekends when school matches often take place. The position reports, in the first instance, to the Head Groundsman.
Responsibilities:
· Leading and managing a full range of Grounds and Landscaping teams;
· Preparation, repair and general maintenance of various multi-use grass sports pitches including rugby, football, cricket, athletics plus MUGA’s;
· Setting up and removal of various sports and games related events;
· Setting up and maintenance of sports equipment;
· Grass cutting, verti draining, earthquaking, fertilising, pitch and line marking etc.;
· Pruning, strimming, weeding, leaf collection etc.;
· Management of stock orders, (safe) storage and use as well as a clear commitment to achieving best value from all expenditure;
· Keeping the Head Groundsman fully advised on the progress of all works;
· Working closely with Premises and Maintenance staff and other colleagues on any areas of overlapping responsibility;
· Any other task within capability as reasonably requested by the Headmaster or Bursar.
Personal Specification:
The ideal candidate has the following skills and attributes:
· Experience in managing a full range of grounds and landscaping teams;
· Able to work diligently and apply strategic thinking to management of the estate;
· Proactive with a good eye for detail;
· Ability to guide, train and motivate the team;
· Self-driven;
· Have a keen desire to want to improve standards;
· Good knowledge of all aspects of gardening and landscaping maintenance;
· Experience in the use of various types of machinery and equipment;
· Experience in the preparation of good quality sports pitches and general grounds maintenance;
· Experience in the preparation of cricket pitches will be necessary;
· Good understanding of all Health & Safety obligations relevant to the role and ability to identify and resolve any issues proactively;
· Clean driving licence.
Qualifications required:
· NVQ levels 1, 2 and 3;
· Winter and Summer Sports pitch preparation/repairs;
· Landscape Planting.
