We’re currently looking for a Deputy Retail Director to lead all aspects of retail operations, managing a team of store managers who oversee individual stores ensuring that all retail stores function smoothly whilst optimising profits. Our client is also going through a massive modernisation programme across the estate and leading this will be a critical part of the role. This would be an ideal role for somebody who is an experienced area manager or regional manager and would like to try something truly unique.
Our client has been managing operations across the Falkland Islands since 1852. The company’s main areas of activity embrace retailing (including food, clothing, electrical goods, home furnishings, gifts and DIY), residential and commercial property, the sale and hire of 4×4 vehicles, travel services, including flight bookings, airport transfers and luxury coach and walking tours for tourists, insurance, agency services for cruise ships and fishing vessels, and the provision of freight and shipping services to and from the islands.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Willing to relocate to The Falkland Islands
- Strong leadership skills with proven change management experience.

- Knowledge of retail software applications including POS systems

- Business acumen, numerical agility and forward-thinking
- Proficiency in MS Office programs
- Driving License
- Provides leadership and guidance to management teams to ensure that each store or departments functions efficiently and effectively and supports them by maintaining and enforcing quality customer service and resolving customer service complaints.
- Works with others to develop and implement creative marketing campaigns and strategies to promote products, drive and increase sales.
- Works with the Retail Director to closely monitor and analyse sales performance,
- Identifies opportunities to improve operations by studying current retail market conditions, competition, customer preferences / needs and retail trends to stay up-to-date and to maintain a competitive advantage in the retail industry.
- Brings best practise in Retail operations to ensure FIC outperforms its rivals.
- Monitors and measures retail’s overall performance against predetermined goals to ensure that all objectives are met.
- Supports the development of retail budgets and ensures that costs are controlled while generating enough revenues to meet set objectives and goals.
- Ensures that operational standards remain consistent across all stores.
- Partners closely with Procurement Director and other staff to ensure that all stores have the correct product assortment and product availability to achieve sales goals.
- Promotes efficient communication and fosters high morale, enthusiasm, and teamwork among staff
- Works with the Retail Director to ensure appropriate staffing levels are in place across all stores, partners with Human Resources to identify, attract and retain the best available talent both internally and externally.
- Develop and lead the Retail Modernisation Programme across the Retail Division, designing implementation plans which address customer, technology, logistic and people challenges.
- Monitor the effectiveness of those plans, modifying content and direction as required.
- Report on progress of the plan to the Senior Leadership Team including to FIH Group as required.
