Empowering Learning are supporting a Secondary school based in South London. They are seeking to appoint Deputy SENCo from January 2024 on a interim basis, with the option to transfer to a permanent contract for the right person.
- Work with the SENDCO to lead the provision of education for children with SEND so that they might achieve beyond expectations
- Design the curriculum for, teach in, lead and manage the Basecamp inclusion curriculum in KS3 and to be responsible for its quality.
- Lead the Reflection Room (SEN behaviour time-out provision) and assure its quality, also taking a lead in the behaviour management of SEND students.
- Responsible for identification assessment, tracking, monitoring and reporting for SEND students
- Ensure that students most challenged by current examination specifications achieve meaningful qualifications with currency in the marketplace
- Facilitate strong cross-curricular links and work with other curriculum leaders
- Encourage staff in all areas teaching SEND children to share good practice and keep them up to date with SEND issues
- Promote the cultural entitlement of SEND children by a range of enrichment activities, trips and visits
- Work with responsible staff to develop literacy and reading across the curriculum
- Identify the most effective teaching methods for children with SEND, to help advise staff on their use and to monitor differentiation in teaching and learning for SEND students.
- Seek to enable pupils with SEND to meet the school's behaviour standards
- Work with parents and carers to support students, including in the development of positive behaviour
- Gather the views of students and act on findings to improve provision
- Assist the SENDCO in building, maintaining and leading a highly qualified and cohesive team in the SEND department.
- Make sure that the SEND area is developed and maintained to offer a stimulating and welcoming learning environment
